Open Letter To My Son {Happy Birthday}

happy birthday

This year’s football picture.

Today is our son Bryceton’s 9th birthday…I can hardly believe it!

I will be the first to admit I do not enjoy my children getting older.  I would prefer they stayed at about 2 and 5 years old forever!

I never pictured myself with a son-coming from a family of all girls-but I always wanted one. So when I was in the middle of my C-Section and my husband peaked over and then looked back at me and said “Its a boy”! I could hardly believe my ears!  I answered “We are so lucky” because we already had our daughter and this completed my dream of having one of each.  I remember it taking a few weeks to sink in that I was the mother of a son.

One of my favorite pictures ever.

Getting to that day wasn’t easy…we experienced two misscarriages between our son and daughter.  For anyone who has experienced a miscarriage you know how difficult the experience is and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.  But, on the day that Bryceton was born I realized God’s plan was for us to raise THIS child all along.  I am so grateful for that because I honestly could not imagine my life without him.

Oh I loved this hair and you at this age. You were hilarious!

Bryceton,

Happy Birthday precious boy!! It is hard to believe you are turning nine years old today!

I thank God for you each and everyday and I will be forever grateful that God chose me to be your mom.  I have learned so much from you -especially all about boys (how they love to be active and get dirty and jump in a puddle or a snow bank with their good shoes on even if there is a dry path to take nearby)!

As you hear all the time you look just like Daddy…it is unbelievable.  You act a lot like him too.  At 9 years old your love for sports is really developing.  I love watching you play football, basketball and baseball.  You also love tennis, skiing and snow boarding.  It seems like all sports come pretty easy to you.

Even though you look like Daddy, we have always had a special bond.  It melts my heart when you hold the door open for me or offer to help me when I am in the middle of something.  Some young girl will be lucky to have you someday (but until then you are all mine)! Oh and did I mention I love your dimples?…oh yes absolutely adorable!

happy birthday

First day of school.

Bryceton I am so proud of the young man you are becoming.  I am excited to see what the future holds for you.  I pray that you always stay true to yourself, are willing to catch your dreams (even when it requires a lot of hard work), always act like a gentleman, keep your sense of humor and never forget how much Daddy and I love you!  You are truly a special, unique and amazing person.

I love you to the moon and back,

Mommy
